Growth opportunities drive project management merger December, 2014
Two of the country’s most exciting project management firms have merged in a deal that will create a company with national and international reach and exceptional growth potential. Award-winning Auckland and Christchurch-based Xigo have merged, effective 1 December, with Wellington firm Mallard Cooke this month and trade under the Xigo name.
Xigo founding director David Wilkie says the merger will extend the new firm’s service capability to clients, expand the company’s geographical reach to a national level, broaden its leadership and staff skill set, increase its client base and provide significant growth opportunities.
“This is a growth-driven deal by two organisations who share a similar world view, enjoy a strong cultural fit and are determined to grow their market share as a combined entity” says Wilkie. “Since its inception in 2010, everything at Xigo has been geared so it’s scaleable for growth”.
“This merger with our like-minded friends at Mallard Cooke is part of the overall strategy to expand our presence and capability more quickly,” he adds.
Xigo was a Deloitte Fast 50 winner in 2013, enjoying 102% revenue growth over the last three years and expanded from one employee in the depths of the recession to a staff of 24 in just four years. This year, its project to house Auckland’s new electric trains won the NZ Property Council’s Excellence Award in the Special Purpose category.
“Xigo already have strong relationships established in Australia, they’ve got a Pacific presence and our new team is very focussed on realising new opportunities,” Mallard says. “We’re all very excited about what we can achieve with our combined resources.”
Wilkie says that clients will experience no disruption during the merger: “It’s very much business as usual. But it does allow us to expand and improve our service offering to both companies’ clients.”
