Components: A major refurbishment to one of the offices of New Zealand’s leading provider of earth, geoscience and isotope research

Project description:

A major refurbishment to one of the offices of New Zealand’s leading provider of earth, geoscience and isotope research has created a safer, warmer and more congenial work environment. The refurbishment at the National Isotope Centre at GNS Science involved extensive internal and external renovations. GNS Science are extremely happy with the renovations, which have, amongst many other things, eliminated the cold southerly draught, that used to blow through the building.

Completed in November 2015, Xigo provided full spectrum project and cost management of the refurbishment, which was staged and whilst the building remained occupied for the duration of the work.  The project involved extensive internal and external refurbishment of a block of offices, a library, a cafeteria and the reception area, the replacement of roof to 35 percent of the building, the construction of a new entry canopy, replacement of all external windows and doors with double glazing, the installation of external wall insulation, an upgrade of the mechanical services controls, replacement of the boiler, and the removal of asbestos.

Our role

GNS Science appointed Xigo to provide full spectrum project and cost management of the refurbishment, which had to take place whilst the building remained occupied for the duration of the work. This was achieved with clever scheduling and breaking down the work into five stages.
