Project description:

The Auckland City Mission is a charitable organisation providing both health and social support facilities for some of the countries must vulnerable communities. The current facilities provided are considered out dated and not suitable to meet current demands, as a result the board have commissioned the build of new a new facility on the existing site at 140 Hobson Street, Auckland.

The new 12,000m² 9 story development project will provide wrap around support services for 80 accommodation units for those on the social housing register.

The project is currently in detailed design with lodgement for resource consent scheduled for the end of Q1 2018.

Our role

Xigo have been engaged to provide full Project Management and Engineer to the Contract services for this iconic development that include but are not limited to:

  • Design management
  • Consenting
  • Procurement
  • Significant stakeholder management
  • Contract administration
  • Project reporting
  • Re-location management.

Main challenges

  • Charitable organisation with tight budget restrictions.
  • Retention of existing heritage building including asbestos removal and seismic strengthening.
  • Integration of multiple facilities requires a complex and detailed design process to ensure operational success.
  • The use of CLT (Cross laminated timber) as the structural component for the building requires a new and innovative design approach.
  • Fast tracked construction programme required while ensuring cost certainty.
